great post! It is a little scary, but also pretty damn cool... The rate of change is staggering. Check out Moore's Law and then think about ten years from now.

This is some great stuff. Now I just need some time to make it happen. Multimedia presentations can be more dynamic, less digging/clicking into a webpage by the user, etc. Might be fun to put something together for a class that can then be used as a…

After attending Educon, I am completely convinced that a 1 to 1 program is the way to go. I think that the frustration with using technology in the classroom can stem from the fact that not everyone has access to a computer all of the time. If you t…

This is a bit mind-boggling.  Here's the link to the Ted Talk referenced in the post.  Okay, I'm turning off my exobrain now...

John, are you saying that we could one-to-one with ipads? Maybe we need to order a few so that those of us on the Bus can pilot them ;-)

Hello,MIT is once again looking for hosts for Scratch Day.  We hosted an event last year that went really well.  Would anyone be interested in coming this year?  Would anyone like to help me plan the day?

Somethings to consider

I have been reading the posts on the ning and am often hesitant to jump in. I'm not sure if I would be the choir or the preacher, but either way I couldn't say that I don't hold a defined and articulated opinion when it comes to the need and importance of using technology. With that being said, I think that one of the problems we have is trying to make the curriculum, the staff and the students fit the technology as opposed to finding the right tool for the job.
Everyone usually thinks that bein… Continue

Pulled from an earlier post

So wrap your brain around this - pulled from "Streams of Content, Limited Attention: The Flow of Information through Social Media" Which I posted here earlier -

Homophily. In a networked world, people connect to people like themselves. What flows across the network flows through edges of similarity. The ability to connect to others like us allows us to flow information across space and time in i… Continue

Living in the Stream

Really interesting crib sheet by danah boyd about living in streams of information. This was from the conference that Peter and I recently attended in NY.

"Consider what it means to be "in flow" in an information landscape defined by networked media and you will see where Web2.0 is taking us. The goal is not to be a passive consumer of information or to simply tune in when the time is right, but rather to live in a wo… Continue

Trough of Disillusionment/Hype Cycle

My brother-in-law is an IT guy, and he introduced me to the term(s)/concept above. Perhaps this is a dark time of the year -- or the night -- but I'm feeling something like "the trough" about the ning we've been trying to use in Senior Writing. I think it has potential, but I'm not sure how to maximize it. The kids haven't really gotten excited about it -- I've heard more pushback than enthusiasm. Part of this, I'm sure, is my… Continue
